Steganography – The Art of Hiding Secret Message

The art and science of hiding information by embedding messages with other file format. Steganography works by replacing bits of useless or unused data in regular computer files (such as graphics, sound, text, HTML, or even floppy disks ) with bits of different, invisible information. This hidden information can be plain text, cipher text, or even images.Some common files used for hiding the data are .jpeg, .bmp, .jpg, .bmp, .pdf, .mp3, .wav, .gif, etc.

In other words Steganography is the art and science of writing hidden messages in such a way that no one apart from the sender and the receiver can know it. In simple words you can say it is a art to Hide our data.

What is the difference between encryption and Steganography?

In encryption the attacker may know that two people are communicating with each other secret way but If you use stegenography technique no one knows that you are sharing some secret data/information with one another.

In stegenography our secret data is joined with some other data file like some image file or some video file..etc. So, attacker may not get a single clue that secret information is shared between two people...!!!!!                    

 
The following example gives detailed overview on how data can be hide by steganography :-

The tool used in this example is "Quick Stego".

The software will look something like this: -

Now the real works begin 

1.Click on open and choose your image which we are going to use for further steps 

2. Click on open & You will see something like below image: -

  

Now the text hiding part : -

3.Make a notepad (txt) File with your secret message in it. Then click on open text browse to the txt file then click on open .

4. Now click on the HIDE TEXT button 

5. Now just save your image and we have done encrypted the text in the photo.

Now you send above photo to your friend through email or any other methord.

Now Come to the decoding part: -

This is very easy ...

1. Just open the image in the Quick Stego software.

2. And we can see the text here: -
